AmKor Collegeville is one of the multiple gyms in Eastern Pennsylvania that make up AmKor Karate Institutes. The initial dojang was founded in 1977 by Master Frederick Scott and has expanded through the years to include six other dojangs. The Headquarters for the AmKor Karate Institutes has been located in Aston, Pennsylvania, a suburb in Southeastern Pennsylvania approximately 5 minutes from the border of the state of Delaware for over 25 years.

AmKor Collegeville teaches the Martial Art of Tang Soo Do, a Korean style of Karate that was founded by Grandmaster Hwang, Kee in 1945 in Seoul, Korea. Master Brian Matys, the Chief Instructor of the AmKor Collegeville dojang, is a 6th Degree Black Belt, receiving the majority of his formal training in Tang Soo Do from Master Scott himself.

Students at our schools are trained in a disciplined environment by highly qualified Masters and Black Belt Instructors. At our schools we teach an authentic Korean Martial Art using methods that have been proven successful in producing high quality practitioners for over 100 years. All Amkor Black Belts receive their Martial Arts credentials from the highest authorities teaching the Tang Soo Do style of Karate in the world. All of our Instructors are accomplished competitors who have won at the State, Regional, National, and International level, because it is an Amkor Karate Institutes prerequisite to teach. When it comes to Instructor credentials, the Amkor Karate Institutes is second to none.

At AmKor Collegeville we believe that children can attain extremely high levels of coordination, balance, agility, and strength in relation to their size if trained in a disciplined and rigorous atmosphere. Authentic Martial Arts training offers this type of developmental training in all the components of physical fitness with the added benefit of self-defense. It is a well known fact that children who are athletic develop a healthier self image of themselves and the self confidence to be more assertive in all aspects of their lives. Martial Arts training can do this for your child. Feel free to call to make an appointment to watch our children’s class and talk with Master Matys.

Congratulations to Ms. Julie Raiguel for being the recipient of the 2011 Student of the Year award for AmKor Karate of Collegeville. Julie has been training at AmKor since 2002 and is actively involved in her training. She shows her dedication by attending extra classes to prepare for future testings and tournaments in addition to assisting Master Matys with his children’s classes. After training for the Traditional Tang Soo Do International Black Belt Testing in June 2011, Julie was promoted to 2nd Degree black belt. As an avid competitor, Julie’s elite competitiveness gained her 3 first place titles this year with many more 2nd and 3rd place awards. As a sophomore at Spring-Ford High School, Julie’s commitment to excellence shows academically as well. Her maturity, respect and dedication has helped distinguish her as an outstanding role model for the other students. Please take a moment and congratulate Ms. Raiguel.
